I'm not sure how much I actually care about fashion as such. My personal style and preferences are, in general, much more important than what Vogue might say is 'in' or what Topshop sells as the 'trendiest item of the season'. However, every now and then I do get ideas from magazines. I love masculine shoes and currently I live in this nice pair of brogues. I would also love to get some wedges, but I haven't found anything I particularly like. When it comes to shopping, as a student, I prefer vintage and second-hand clothes. Another good place for cool finds is usually your own or family member's closet, for example, my dad bought me this bag when I was about five and I had completely forgotten about it. However, I also admire designers like Hussein Chalayan, who are very avant garde and independent when it comes to fashion.

London street style is very eclectic and every neighborhood has its own distinct style. The 'it'-place has been for a while Brick Lane, but they come and go. The variety of styles in London is what's really inspiring here. I'm still a student, and I often shop at places like Urban Outfitters and vintage stores, and these kind of stores dictate, to an extent, what you can wear, because you never know what you will find there. I don't usually like to wear too many patterns and, instead, balance them out with basic simple pieces. Currently I'm looking for a nice pair of low-top sneakers. I really hate when people compare me to Rihanna, and I'm not too keen on having a style icon in general - I want to be individual and unique.

My current favourites are these dungarees, but I'm looking for a nice pair of leather shorts and trousers, and perhaps also creepers. However, I always try to dress these kind of items down with floral prints or something feminine. I would not call her a style icon, but I like how Katy Perry always looks feminine, but wears absolutely crazy clothes. Here in London there are so many places to get cool vintage clothes, my favourites being shops on Brick Lane, but if I had money, I would love to buy more Chanel and Chloé. I don't think it is that bad to spend a lot of money on shoes, handbags and accessories, because they don't really go out of fashion and you will have them for years. However, I do hate shoes like the UGG boots and All Saints' 'Doc Martens'-wannabe boots, because everyone has them and they are just plain ugly.

Most, if not all, my clothes come from vintage stores like Rokit, Beyond Retro and high-street, especially, Topshop. Student budget really dictates what you can and what you can't wear, but there is still so much to choose from, especially in a city like London, and you can really get innovative. This season I love floral patterns and sort of 'picnic-y' style. However, I don't really think about defining my style or looking for specific pieces as you never know what you will come across in vintage shops. That's why I really like someone like Alexa Chung, whose style is a mishmash of vintage, designer and different trends and styles. I love reading Vogue, but I also enjoy pages like lookbook.nu as they just give you an idea how to be more innovative with your personal style, so, a mixture of editorials and reality.

I'm from this really small place near Manchester, so the first time I went to London I was amazed how wacky yet original people looked there. I'm really loving the environment and style in Cambridge as well. I would describe my style as being bit messy and grunge, so place like Cambridge is perfect both in terms of inspiration and fitting in. I think students here look really amazing. This fall I'm really loving all kinds of knitwear and chunky boots. I get my clothes from very random places, for example, I got these boots from this girl at some festival, who swapped them for food, because they didn't fit or something like that. But I also wear a lot of stuff from vintage stores. However, I also like designer fashions as well and I got this Vivienne Westwood bag for my eighteenth birthday and it is still my most priced possession. I really love Vivienne Westwood and I think she embodies British fashion.

I grew up in Central London, and quite early started to hang out in places like BoomBox. A couple years ago everything there was about wearing extremely over the top clothes, and even if I kept it somewhat modest - or as modest a leather shift dresses and such can be – my friends went all for it. I liked that I could go to these places, explore new styles and have good time. It is all about self-expression. But I guess my style changes a lot depending where I am. My style changed drastically after I moved to Paris and I would never wear too crazy things here in Cambridge. I get most of my inspiration from films and I have so many stills saved in my computer. I absolutely love French New Wave cinema, and for a while I had a slight obsession with Louise Brooks. My hair used to be cut like hers – really short and really strong. However, now I'm trying to grow it long.

I'm originally from Milan, but I've been living in London for three years. I still go to Milan 2-3 times a month and I love how everyone there knows their fabrics and appreciates good quality and style. Here, on the other hand, people can be much more adventurous, but there are also very many of those whose style and knowledge in fashion is dictated only by what high street shops offer and promote. I never buy anything from such places and, instead, I prefer young and upcoming designers. And to be honest, I have noticed that thanks to the recession many people have started to appreciate the quality again. So, I think this crisis in fashion industry, and in the economy in general, could actually help to narrow the differences between big chains and young designers. I work as a fashion PR for Katie Eary, Katie Rowland and Ugo Cacciatori, so I can get so many amazing pieces from them. At the moment, I'm really into this pirate style, which I have combined today with a trampy Sherlock Holmes look, but my personal style changes somewhat drastically in every couple of months.

I try to wear clothes that would not be so obvious and mainstream. At the moment I'm loving these boots. I like to go bit crazy, but I don't like when people wear too colourful outfits. I usually keep it to 2-3 colours and their shades, because otherwise it is too much -you would not be able to see the person inside the clothes. I know it sounds bit funny, but I feel that different clothes and colours communicate with each other and a good outfit has a harmony between the details. In general, I love fashion and FTV is always playing in the background. My favourite designers are John Galliano for his own line and Dior, Alexander McQueen and Jeremy Scott. I also love people watching and very often I find myself thinking about someone's outfit and how to improve it and how it would look on me. Most of my friends have an amazing style, so it is really easy to get ideas from them. It is great that we sort of encourage each other to experiment with our own style and no-one is judgmental.

I don't think I can describe my style. Well, of course, I really like black clothes and more recently also grey ones, but otherwise my style just depends on my mood. One day I want to wear weird shapes, but the other I wear something very modest and simple.Today it is all about many layers and different textures. Well, of course I'm interested in fashion, but for me being interested in and following every trend are two very different things. I like to have my own look, which means that very often I have to improvise. For example, I made this headband this morning from a tie. Also, I have altered this jacket to make a belt. I think one of my all time favourite designers is Rick Owens, who always has something nice, but I also like someone like Valentino, who is very out there yet classical and feminine. But my dream would be owning a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood's shoes. He is amazing and amazingly expensive. Maybe one day, hopefully soon... There are more and more talented Estonian designers, but I don't think they have a place where to showcase their work, so it is difficult to follow what they are doing.

Over the past couple of years I have really toned down my personal style. I used to love outgoing and colourful clothes, because I wanted to show the world how positive and fun-loving I can be, but now I think a sincere smile is enough. Personal style becomes more mature as well and for me it has meant darker shades, but I don't think it always has to be like that. For example, I really like Vivienne Westwood's personal style, because she proves that it doesn't matter how old you are, you can still wear these crazy clothes, look stylish and still feel comfortable in your own skin. So, maybe one day I will go back to my old style. Today I'm actually bit more dressed up than usual: a friend of mine just asked if I was to a reception or something. But I just felt really great today and wanted to wear something smart.

I prefer to buy clothes from less-known labels and new upcoming designers, because I absolutely hate when people wear huge logos and when you can recognize the clothes from fashion magazines. I live in Helsinki, but as I travel most of the time, I buy my clothes from abroad like Paris or New York, and I also like to shop online, because I can get clothes from labels not available here, say, American Apparel. Today I'm wearing a jacket from a second-hand in Berlin, hat from somewhere in Finland, scarf by Henrik Vibskov, jeans by Nudie and glasses by Italian label SUPER. But I think I'm quite relaxed when it comes to my style and I don't think about it too much. It is not the most important thing in my life. My style changes whenever I have time to buy new clothes. At the moment I really want to get a trenchcoat, probably in black - because black is the new black.

I really like vintage and second-hand clothes, because they are not so predictable. I think one person, who wears vintage so nicely is Alexa Chung: mainly because she combines vintage with designer clothes. Also, besides her, Kate Moss has a very effortless style and uses a lot of vintage items. Tallinn, and Estonia in general, is great for finding good second-hand clothes, because people here have a completely different taste compared to, say, England, where I'm currently studying in university. So, always when I come home here, I can get so many cool second-hand items, but usually shopkeepers look at me as if I'm crazy to buy the things I buy. I think my taste and style has changed after I went to England. Here I was very into 'comfortable' clothes, jeans, sneakers and so on, but there I have gotten really into fashion and more dressy outfits. My current favourite designer is Alexander Wang.

As I'm still a high school student, I have to wear modest and smart clothes to school, so in the evening, I like to dress up. This fall I will be wearing a lot of sequined and velvet items. My absolute favourite designers are Gareth Pugh and Martin Margiela, their avant-garde designs and shapes are so inspiring. I do like exhibitionism in fashion, but only to a certain degree. With Estonian fashion, I think the main problem is that brands like Monton are way too plain and simple, while Supernoova caliber designers make clothes that are simply unwearable, because we don't have proper events for them. Besides that, I really like films, especially ones made by Sophia Coppola. While Pugh and Margiela have very strong looks, then Coppola's films and the beautiful looks and cinematography have helped me to tone it down.

My closet consists mainly of second-hand clothes. Partly because I think we all should go green and stop consuming and creating new products, but also because second-hand clothes are cheap. Combines two nice things. However, I do like to buy new t-shirts with prints of my favourite artists' works. I study in the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, so I get my energy and ideas from art and the art scene. In Tallinn, I like that you can see so many people wearing second-hand and vintage clothes, which makes the street scene so different from Western Europe, where people think they are so fashionable yet they all look like H&M or Topshop clones. I think people here are more alternative than they actually think they are, while in other places it is the opposite. But I also like the street style in the UK, or at least in some circles, because it is experimental yet uses things from the past. I like street style because it helps to get ideas how to re-use or re-style clothes I already have. You usually forget about half of the clothes you own and every now and then I see someone wearing this cool sweater, or something like that, and then it would remind me that I have something similar.

My friends have already gotten used to the fact that I always wear crazy and over-the-top outfits - preferably in green and orange - but when I'm in a bus or walk around the city there are always some older ladies, who look at me as if I have gone mad. I make all, or at least most, of my clothes, so when I go shopping then I mainly shop for cool fabrics. I got the orange fabric for this dress from Norway, but there are really nice fabric shops in Tallinn. Besides all that, I think it is important to have comfortable clothes and accessories, which would work whatever the weather or situation is. Also, I don't care too much about fashion, because it can be a bit restrictive and I just want to wear whatever is me and makes me happy.

I just got back from a trip to Berlin and Paris and I spent a lot of time in a car, so I thought I want to wear something very comfortable and flowy. The dress I'm wearing today used to belong to my mother. I get a lot of ideas from my trips abroad, because it is just nice to do some people-watching and see what works for other people. Besides that I get inspired by art. Recently my big favourites are Klimt's paintings and the small patterns and motifs in his art. I'm a huge fan of patterns anyway. They make ordinary looks more extraordinary. However, art, people-watching and also music don't just affect the way I dress, but inspire me in general. Fashion can't be separated from other aspects of life.

Climate in the northern areas sets restraints to what we can or can't wear. It is still summer, but you constantly have to worry about clothes that would be suitable for colder weather as well. Therefore, in summer I try to wear heels as often as possible because in the winter it would be way too risky. Also, just because of the climate, I try to be more tolerant towards people wearing fur. I currently like big prints, the 80s fashion, shiny textures and everything that is over-the-top, but I try not to spend too much time and money on finding suitable clothes. This year's autumn collection at H&M is such an improvement and looks somewhat high fashion. For example, I got this jacket from there as well. In Helsinki, the fashion scene is picking up slowly, but it is still a small and very specific market. It is very clear that people here prefer more minimalist style, which might seem boring in, say, London, but is essential to our fashion scene.

I really like the transformation that Kanye West has gone through. Just a couple of years ago he was just a random rapper, but now he is a style icon. Most male celebrities (and men in general) are not brave enough to take any fashion risks. I'm a dancer so I get ideas from music and it also means that my shoes have to be comfortable and, therefore, I'm obsessed with colourful and crazy sneakers. I just got a pair of golden ones, but I haven't worn them yet. I would love to get the sneakers Kanye designed for Louis Vuitton. Also, I want to get these old-school Timberland boots. I buy a lot of my clothes abroad or ask my girlfriend to 're-design' some old ones. For example, with this sweater she just added the strawberry detail and changed the buttons, and now it looks much more fun than just an ordinary black sweater.

Today I'm wearing a vintage maxi dress and a woven Balenciaga bag. This kind of mixing of high end with vintage is somewhat representative of my usual personal style. Besides Nicolas Ghesquière and Balenciaga, I also love everything that Albert Elbaz creates for Lanvin and Isabel Marant. For more everyday clothes I like Paul & Joe, which is cheaper, but still is very fashionable and has a great quality. I think Paris is great, but the fashion crowd here kind of looks the same. Simple, chic and mainly black outfits are nice, but I think it is not as inspiring as maybe a couple of years ago. My greatest style inspirations are my parents. My mum is a designer so I can always go up to her if I need some new ideas.

Paris is a metling pot of all the cultures of the world. Maority of people here are not from Paris, so it is difficult to talk about Parisian style, because very often it is just foreigners imitating what they think is the Parisian style. But I guess people here, especially, in certain regions, are keen consumers of high fashion. Designer clothes can be amazing, but only when you make them your own and carry them off. I don't like when outfits are copied straight off the runway or a magazine. Personal style should be a mixture of diffeent classical basics, trendy pieces and high fashion: Zara combined with Chloé and Dries Van Noten. This summer I have been wearing different Indian trousers pulled up and worn with several belts.

The important thing is to feel confident and empowered in your clothes. This is the only way how to survive, especially, in a fashion world. Everyone wants to bring you down, but they actually can't if you don't let them. It is pointless to think what others think, because, honestly, your taste and what suits you is not going to change based on someone else's opinion. Also, I think people, who are comfortable with what they wear, look more beautiful. My personal style is somewhat colour-oriented, but I usually like to add some unexpected splashes of colour like, maybe, a bit bright yellow or purple. My favourites are Balenciaga and YSL, because they not only have innovative designs, but their clothes fit perfectly as well. This fall I want a beige woolen coat, and a pair of pinstriped trousers. S. J. : I'm from Australia, but I live in Paris now. I don't think you can really compare fashion here and there, because the quality of clothes and the amazing designs of French fashion houses are legendary. My favourite label here is Maje, which creates one of the most amazing yet wearable clothes out there. However, I also like more affordable brands like See by Chloé and Marc by Marc Jacobs. I'm a keen reader of all these different fashion magazines, but French Vogue and L'Officiel are the cream of the crop. However, it is not all about French style and my all-time favourite style icon is Sarah Jessica Parker.

J. : My favourite places to shop are charity and other op shops, and different flea markets. I don't care too much about brands, but I do like Levi's for jeans. Also, sometimes I just like to borrow Stephanie's clothes that have a more androgynous look. I like retro rock style.

I like when people mix the simple and chic French style with more eclectic and over-the-top British style. It creates this nice balance between these two style that are bit too severe just on their own. I'm currently very into British fashion, because I recently discovered the amazing style of Alexa Chung and also Topshop. From French labels I like Sandro, but their new fall collection is bit too dark for my taste. I find it so boring and uninspiring that Parisian fall style is black and high heels. I want something new. My personal style is quite simple. Currently I like these black cigarette pants and I love oversized t-shirts. I get most of my shirts from men's department, because they have a nicer fit. I just got some from Marc by Marc Jacobs. I'm also very into different jackets and unique necklaces. Although I like most accessories, I'm not a big shoe-person. I just tend to wear the pair I love the most, which at the moment is this one.

This hairstyle and these glasses combined are already a strong fashion statement on their own and at the moment kind of the most important aspect of my personal style. This is why I don't want to go too overboard with other current trends and I prefer vintage clothes. Also, it is less likely you will run into someone looking the same. Besides vintage, I also like Noir Kennedy. In Paris every region, or the quarter, has their own character and locals with their style reflect that. So, it would be already inspiring enough to just walk around in different parts of the city, but for a more surreal high fashion experience, I like to every now and then flip through Citizen K and French Vogue.

I’m in love with everything Karl Lagerfeld does – he is so creative and such an inspiration. He is not only one of the most amazing designers, but his personal style is great as well. I like how in his designs he plays with androgynous style and makes it very feminine, for example, if you look at typical Chanel clothes. I’m personally also very into masculine clothes, but I think the more feminine you are, the better you can balance them. At the moment my favourite item is this blazer, which I got from Zara. Zara is my favourite shop for all the basics. I’m also wearing my boyfriend’s shirt, boots from Stockholm and a scarf I got from Universaal Universum.

I like very bright colours, especially purple, and while in the summer many wear them, during the winter months most of the clothes available are in dark colours and it just reinforces the gloominess of winter. But at the moment it is still summer and sunny, which is quite rare here, so I try not to think about that. I’m thirteen and many people in my age group look kind of the same and wear clothes that all their friends are wearing, but I have always wanted to be different and experiment with clothes. However, clothes I wear are more influenced by my moods than anything else, because designer clothes are not really available, so I don’t feel a need to go through many fashion magazines to get ideas and, instead, I just browse Cosmopolitan or other similar publications for entertainment.

I just got this denim shirt with these lacy bits a couple of days ago for my birthday. This summer I really like light denim and other pastel and soft shades. However, my preferences in fashion are changing constantly; just recently I was into bold colours. This Autumn I think I will be wearing some high-wasted skirts and trousers and simple tops with them. In the high school I go to, I’m not allowed to wear jeans to school, so no denim for Autumn… My favourite fashion houses are old classics like Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel, but also new ones like Alexander Wang. With brands like YSL and Chanel, I feel that you have to have a certain presence and maturity to carry them off. I hate when designer clothes are worn with otherwise trashy outfits.

But most of my everyday choices are quite random – especially when it comes to accessories and small details like these earrings and pins on my shoes. Today I’m looking for a pair of nice strappy heels and it is so difficult to find ones I really like. I work as a model, which is why I travel a lot and I’m around different designers and all that experience has really influenced my style. I have this kind of globetrotter style, which means my clothes have to be simple, comfortable and that they have to work in different places and environments. My favourite fashion houses are Alexander McQueen, Lanvin, Balenciaga and Chloé. However, I would never wear visible brand logos. My favourite Estonian designers are Oksana Tandit and Aldo Järvsoo, who have these amazing delicate and one-of-a-kind dresses. However, in Estonia, sadly, people still prefer to buy many cheap dresses than to actually invest in a more expensive yet a classic and good-quality dress. However, usually you wear these cheap clothes a lot less, because they have poor quality, go out of fashion more quickly or you just don’t value them as much.

I recently visited Crete, where all the art, architecture and culture was so beautiful and exciting so I’m still being inspired by it. However, maybe a bit more in home decoration than clothes. I try to travel as much as possible, so all these different cultures and experiences have this kind of uplifting and inspiring effect on me. I’m currently feeling nautical yet minimalist style, which is kind of reflected by this vintage dress and, actually, the entire outfit. Otherwise, my clothes have to be comfortable and appropriate for many different occasions– I prefer outfits that would look OK for shopping or a work interview or something else that might happen. I really like shoes and watches, but my other half is very rational and doesn’t understand why I need so many.

I think everyone wants to define oneself as somehow unique and the easiest way to do that is by dressing up in a certain way. I choose clothes that other people necessarily would not wear. In Estonia very many people define themselves through brands and have these huge brand logos visible on everything imaginable. I hate such clothes and style. Wearing Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana and so on doesn’t mean you have a great style. I get my clothes from small second-hand shops – this jacket is from Iisraeli Keskus (Israel Centre) and shoes are from a second-hand in Haapsalu. My thing is to wear a lot of different colours, big sweaters and I like to plan my outfit a day in advance. I think in Estonia people in one social circle tend to dress alike, so my friends definitely give me ideas what to try next.

My style is pretty simple and I wouldn’t wear uncomfortable clothes. I tend to shop at second-hand stores. These dungarees and shoes are both from there and, especially, this pair of men’s shoes is my favourite item this summer. I find Estonian art scene very inspiring. I think there are many young artists, who are creating these very exciting pieces and actively representing Estonia abroad. Also, I try to find out where different artists get their inspiration from – either through the Internet or by meeting the artists themselves, for example, at exhibition openings. All artists are very different so the story behind their work is unique and inspiring.

I’m a photography student from Finland and I currently live there in Helsinki. The street style there can be almost described as performance art. I’ll be honest – I’m quite easily influenced. People around me - my friends, family and, especially, my younger sister- tell me about what is going on in high fashion and through that they also shape my style choices. I’m also inspired by the work of photographer Katharina Fengler and stylist Eva Bühler. This summer most of my clothes are these oversized short dresses, because they are just so comfortable and look good on me. I’m a student so I mainly shop at thrift stores and at these Swedish high-street chains like H&M.

I just noticed today how older people have started to wear so cool and quirky accessories – a lot of colours, neon coloured shoes and so on. It is great to see that. I’m actually from Tartu and one of the organizers of Tartu’s ‘Müürilille täika’ (Müürilille flea market). Most of my clothes are vintage or second-hand. I just got this denim top from a second-hand in Helsinki, leggings are from Humana, and the bag is from some other thrift store. Because most of my clothes are second-hand, I’m not that concerned with what is going on at the moment in the fashion world. Then again, maybe it is quite usual in Estonia that people are doing their thing and don’t care what is in. Besides second-hand, I love American Apparel.

I’m originally from Japan, but I partly live in Paris and then partly here in Tallinn, where I’m working on an architecture project. I think I’m still very strongly influenced by Japanese designers and artists, especially by some I have worked with. It is great to see the work process and how they get inspired. When talking about my personal style, I would describe it as neutral, natural and adaptive to the environment I’m in. I like to change my outfit by adding and changing accessories. Today it is all about this scarf. My favourite designer is Issey Miyake.

I try to think green and “recycle” clothes – these trousers and shirt used to belong to a friend and I buy a lot of second-hand clothes. Also, I make my own jewellery, for example, this necklace today. It is important to understand what kind of message your clothes are sending and that first impression is also based on what we wear. I’m not sure how many Estonians think about that, especially those women who wear those nonexistent skirts and tops. When choosing what to wear, I usually pick a piece I really like and build everything else upon it, for example, today, I wanted to wear these corduroy trousers and these leg warmers, and then I just added everything else.

Fashion is definitely a form of art even if some like to believe it isn't. I went to an art school, but I always felt that other forms of art did not excite me as much or I wasn't that good at them, so for me my personal style was, and still is, an artistic expression. I really like many Estonian designers, but my favourite is definitely Liisi Eesmaa. Many of my friends are also more and more into Estonian fashion scene and I think Estonians, in general, are willing to spend more money on one of a kind pieces by young local designers. This summer I really like these big sun hats. I'm going to Italy soon and my goal is to find the biggest floppy hat out there.

I would not survive without art and good music. I study art myself, so, of course, I’m very strongly influenced by it. Also, most of friends study art and are very inspiring and original. I think in Estonia there are very stylish people, but they move in certain circles, so they seem hard to find. If I have to choose a style icon, I would say Bob Dylan, or maybe some other more old-school musician. This summer I have been mainly wearing latex or leather leggings, white oversized t-shirts and these sunglasses – I’d just throw these things on and I’m good to go. I like to read fashion blogs to see what is going on in the fashion world; there are so many wonderful blogs out there that I can’t name my favourite.

Today is so boiling hot that I just wanted to wear something comfortable. I’m naturally really pale and try to avoid showing too much skin, but in such heat, I don’t care anymore. Usually, in Estonian weather, my favourite piece of clothing is my raincoat – can’t live without it. I get most of clothes from vintage shops and flea markets. It is almost like treasure hunting; however, this sometimes leads to buying clothes I’m actually not going to wear. For example, a couple of weeks ago I bought this Turkish-style jacket I will probably never wear, but I was so happy when I found it. My parents are always telling me I shouldn’t buy such clothes, but I can’t resist. This weekend there was the Supernoova competition and I saw in some newspapers the dresses made by Hanna Korsar and I loved them. It is really brave to go for something completely unexpected like these baroque-esque gowns.

I don’t know what to think about my style. I guess my usual fashion choices lean towards the bohemian style, especially in the summer. I listen to indie-music so this probably affects as well. One thing I have noticed is how during the winter months I think more about what I wear and my style, while in the summer it is very laid-back. This summer I like statement pieces like this dress, and, in general, dresses and skirts. I’m very into the British fashion scene with designers like Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and style icons like Agyness Deyn. It is very crazy and very brave. Also, every now and then I see what is happening in the haute couture world. This is because I don’t like boring clothes; I like when designers turn it up a notch.

Autumn is easily my favourite time of the year, because then it is the easiest to combine interesting outfits. I like layering, but in the summer it is not that easy. However, everything I do and wear is strongly affected how I feel and what my mood is: when I’m sad I tend to go for dark colours and styles that would blend in with general street style, when I’m happy or just want to experiment I go for bright colours so I could get the attention I want. Currently I’m looking for a red Scottish tartan jacket with a pattern similar to the shoes I’m wearing today. However, I never find clothes I have in mind so in the end I will go and ask my grandmother to sew me them.

Art in Estonia is in what I would call a semi-permanent stage– it doesn’t change too much, but nothing disappears either. But I do like art as such, because I’m studying interior design at the Estonian Academy of Arts. To be honest, I rarely wear second-hand or vintage clothes, I prefer to buy new clothes, but today I’m wearing my mother’s old skirt and I think it looks great. I try to follow fashion, but I think it is more unconsciously, because I don’t care too much about designer labels. However, I try to keep up with Estonian fashion. I have been following it more passionately since I was a model at last year’s Supernoova for Marleen Roosna. However, I think most Estonian designers focus more on their art and show than the actual wearability of their clothes. There is nothing wrong with that, but I think it might distantiate many who would be interested in it otherwise.

When I go shopping, I just go for clothes that ‘feel right’. Only thing from abroad is this Mona Lisa earring that was a gift from a friend from London. With my personal style I tend to jump from one decade to another; I used to be very into the Thirties, now most of my clothes have the 80s feel and then, of course, I had the Sixties phase as well.

This summer I will be wearing a lot of white tanks, shorts with unusual patterns and hats. I’m a Christian and my greatest inspiration in everything is God. To be honest, I’m not that impressed with London street style anymore, with the exception of Shoreditch. People look the same and unusual has become usual. Everyone shops in same places, like Topshop, and thinks this is what fashion is about. I think the best street style is in Denmark and Sweden. However, I wish men’s street style generally would improve – someone has to take a leap. My favourite designer is Ermanno Scervino.

I have lived in London for a year and before that in New York and Seattle, and what I like about London is the easy-going I-just-rolled-out-of-bed street style. Also, in big cities the good thing is that you are around new people all the time – you meet someone for 2 minutes and then you probably will never see them again, so you care much less about what other people think about you. I work for a music magazine and I’m inspired by bands like Florence and The Machine and folk music and musicians, for example, Johnny Flynn. Today I’m wearing a dress from Apple Tree here in Covent Garden, Marc Jacobs boots and a necklace by a local designer. I always try to support up-and-coming designers and artists.

My style in a few words can be described as 1950s granny. It evolves, but, in general, it has remained the same as long as I can remember. I think such dresses and skirts work on my shape and I feel comfortable in them. I’m studying textile designs, so I’m into different prints as well; however, even though I’m wearing floral prints today, I’m currently more into animal prints – not like leopard and all that, but prints of animals, say, horses and so on. I think London has such a vibrant fashion scene so it definitely has influenced my personal style alongside with British designers like Alexander McQueen and Giles Deacon.

I'm the most influenced by music and crazy rock bands and singers, especially Mötley Crüe and The Horrors. I play guitar myself as well. The most stylish person I know is my friend Anastasia.

I'm currently into 1920's fashion. My outfits are all about ties, waistcoats, nice sweaters...I prefer chic and smart clothes that would still have something unusual about them: maybe the shape, maybe that they are oversized or something like that. It also matters how your outfit is styled. I think the main problem with Estonian street style is that Estonia is so tiny. If there are, say, a hundred very stylish people per one million, then there are, unfortunately, a lot less potential stylistas in Tallinn than in places like London or New York.

My favourite clothes are usually quite simple. It even doesn’t matter how they are styled – you can have many layers of them, but each one has to be subtle. Simplicity as a whole inspires me. I don’t pay much attention to what other people wear, unfortunately you only notice them, who don’t really carry off their clothes.

This weekend was the tenth annual Supernoova gala. For those who do not know, this is a fashion competition for Estonian designers. This year the winners were Liisi Eesmaa in the older category and Kristel Kuslapuu in the younger category. They have been both featured in Just Glitter Lust and you can check them out if you click on their names.

As there are always many stylish people at Supernoova, I couldn't manage taking pictures and interviewing on my own. So these pictures are all taken by Siim Lepik and I focused on interviews. You can check out his other photos here.

Cheap and almost disposable clothes are doing a huge damage to the environment and therefore I try to wear vintage and second-hand clothes. If I buy something new, I like clothes that have a good quality, for example Vivienne Westwood’s creations. I’m actually from Sweden, but I live in Tallinn. Here designers have more elaborate style, but in Sweden it is all about minimalist style. One thing I don’t get is why there are so few menswear designers in Estonia.

Estonian fashion designers only concentrate on the show and not on the clothes. Very often they basically sew the outfits on models and therefore they have a poor quality. Due to that only very few people can wear their creations. All that said, I admit that they do have great shows. My own style usually follows different themes. HEL-LOOKS in TALLINN

An exhibition of HEL-LOOKS' street style pictures was opened yesterday at Finnish Institute in Tallinn. HEL-LOOKS in one of the pioneers in street style phenomenon and therefore I wanted to meet up and chat with Liisa Jokinen, who is one of the co-authors if HEL-LOOKS, about her work, fashion and much more and I decided to share some points with you.

I really like second-hand clothes and when I travel I try to go to local shops. Normally I wear dresses and I love old Marimekko designs. I sometimes read Asian magazines, for example, Fruits for inspiration, because they always wear so unexpected cominations: long skirts with long jackets or au contraire really short dresses and jackets.

How much did you think about street style before you started with HEL-LOOKS?

"I remember taking some pictures of random people when I was 12 or 13, but I took these pictures secretly. First person who I stopped and asked for a picture was a lady in Amsterdam. I think it is my first official street style picture. Definitely I think more about street style now, but I have always liked fashion. However, I never wanted to be a designer so doing a street style site is a great alternative."

What is the role of street style for you?

"These pictures are not just snapshots. Each city and country has a distinct style. It is easy for me to recongize a Finnish or Swedish person in Tokyo or London, however, I can't point out what it is that is different. Maybe it is because I studied History that I see it as a very important way of documenting our time. It is a pity that people did not do it as much before."

Future plans?

"We hope to publish a HEL-LOOKS book some day and I'd love to have some longer interviews there with people, so we could find out more about the person and one's style. We also hope to travel the world with our exhibition and carry on taking pictures until we enjoy it. For me it is like an obession. Each pictures makes me really happy and gives me energy. "

For example, today I wanted a cool shirt for tonight and I did this one and one for my friend Julia in like 2 minutes. I like experimenting with black fabrics. Martin: I really like John Galliano’s creations. His designs are always very creative and can be bit over-the-top. You should never go for the tip to toe Galliano look, but you can adapt some details and ideas into your own wardrobe.

At the moment I’m designing a jacket with a heart motive to wear this spring. These boots are from Fornarina and are my current favourites. I wear them everywhere – here, where it is minus ten, and in Malta, where it is really warm etc. These earrings are really important to me as well, because I’m a hairdresser.

My wardrobe is based on colours. Half of the year here is really gloomy and dull anyway, so people shouldn’t wear so much dark colours. Even if you wear black clothes, choose colourful accessories. This would improve local street style also. Another thing that is important is to find a nice coat. It shouldn’t be too short (you’ll be ill in no time) or too long (you’ll look twice your size).

I prefer clothes that are more expensive and have a better quality. I’m really against cheap labour plus clothes with better quality last longer. Sorry that I haven't been updating so often as before, but bad weather has been taking its toll on Estonian street style. Too much mud, rain and snow aren't the best option for cool clothes. I currently obsess about animal prints and that’s why I’m wearing this suit today. However, my all time favourites have to be Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan. Their creations never go out of fashion and that’s why I never sell or give them away. An outfit that always works is a black suit with a white shirt. If I have to get up early and go to work and I don’t have any time to think what to wear, I always go for that look. I think Estonians dress really well, it is a misconception that we are shy.

There aren’t many beautiful clothes out there and you really have to spend time in order to find them. If you don’t have time or don’t want to spend any of it, you won’t find cool and unique clothes. I like to read fashion magazines and you can get a lot of inspiration from editorials and seeing what celebrities wear. My favourite labels have to be high street ones such as Topshop, Urban Outfitters and H&M.

This season Monton carries a great collection of bright colours and I got this dress from there. When you are young, you should experiment with your clothes and with your hairstyle. Younger people put more effort into their appearance and look better, but the older generation here does everything to remain “invisible” and boring. I don’t think high fashion affects my own style, but if I have to name any favourites then Viktor&Rolf. My favourite Estonian designer is Ivo Nikkolo.

Practical aspect of clothing can never be overestimated. I don’t care much about brand-names and the same goes for magazines. I like reading them, when I’m at hairdressers, but I don’t have any favourites. Although I want to feel comfortable, I’m a big fan of different heels.

I prefer to feel comfortable in my skin and in my clothes, but this could actually mean the opposite. I feel better in skinny clothes. These are very often as rather uncomfortable, but not by me. Otherwise I’m spontaneous when it comes to fashion. Everything around us is evolving, you cannot say that fashion here in Tallinn doesn’t improve – even that chav there has a new Nike sweats...

Black always looks good! When I go out I prefer more feminine pieces, but in the mornings and when I’m home I wear oversized t-shirts. I tend to prefer more expensive pieces, because they won’t lose their value and have a better quality. One of my favourites is this Gucci bag I’m carrying. You can get clothes from Estonia, but for shoes I always go abroad.

People, wear more bold colours and this season mainly in blocks. One thing I’ve been longing after is Burberry’s belt that has been combined out of 3 similar ones. I know that all the high-street shops in London have already copied them, but it takes a while when they are big in Tallinn. My other favourites definitely include Alexander Mcqueen and Vivienne Westwood.

I’m a model so I’m lucky enough to travel a lot and through that explore different styles. I just got back from Hong Kong. Skinny jeans are a big hit everywhere, but it is weird how there most of the people wear them with chic shoes, while here it is more about sneakers. One of my favourite places to shop at is Topshop – clothes are great and cheap, what more could you want! My local big love is Tanel Veenre. PS wearing this hairstyle is not my choice, it is for the show.

I really admire Coco Chanel as a person. Her style was very simple yet more than chic. I’m a big fan of street style and I frequently visit this site (Just Glitter Lust’s). One of my favourite shops in Tallinn is Reede. It carries some great labels such as one of my biggest favourites CTRL. I just recently went to Reede and saw one great latex jacket that you can customize. I’m definitely planning to buy this one. I prefer less known brands, but it is great if someone else knows about them – the joy of recognition.

I get many ideas from films and cartoons. My latest discovery is Samurai Jack’s cartoon. It has made me understand that beige colour and halftones would look great on me. Clothes here don’t carry any meaning or statement, everything is solely practical, and this makes Estonian street style a bit boring. Maybe it is because that my own style sense is so different from the local mainstream preferences.

This clock on the bag is actually working and I got it from my grandmother. I get many things from her and also from second-hands. My style is ever-changing. One day I can look very ghetto, the other very sleek and feminine.

I really like everything from the Sixties and doll-like. I like to shop, but about 70% clothes come from second-hands and 30% are made by me. Today all the clothes, except these boots, are from Estonia. I’m studying fashion design myself and therefore I like to flip through old fashion editorials and other photos for ideas and inspiration.

Silver: I really like all kind of hoodies and brown coloured clothes. Today my main goal is not to get too wet, because it has been raining all the time. I don’t think I can judge street style, because everyone is supposed to be different and therefore there are no ‘wrong’ or ‘right’ styles.
Joel: I think yellow is a lot cooler colour than brown. I’m wearing yellow today too, but it is hidden – I have a yellow cigarette lighter. I got this jacket from USA Today second-hand and I love the Adidas sweatshirt I’m wearing. I don't have any idols, maybe except the guys from Trainspotting - I'd like to be as cool addict as they were.
